Dim Sum: Beefy Cheung Fun Rolls [Vegan/GF]

Wish you could eat Dim Sum at home? Now you can with this amazingly vegan beefy cheung fun recipe. Never be deprived of delicious Dim Sum ever again especially after going vegan. With ground beef alternatives like Beyond Beef you can make almost anything vegan.

 

You'll need a few things for this recipe: 

  • Large pan/wok with lid
  • Shallow steam rack
  • Metal baking dish square or rectangular (I used 7" x 7" but I recommend rectangular and longer to allow additional rolling)
  • Spatula
  • Brush to oil pan

INGREDIENTS:

  • 2 Beyond Burger patties or 8 oz of your favorite beefy ground
  • 1 Flax Egg (1 Tbs Flax Meal & 3 Tbs Water)
  • 3 Tbs No Chick Broth or Veggie Broth
  • 2 Tbs Cornstarch or Tapioca Starch
  • 1 Tbs Tamari/Soy Sauce
  • 1 Tbs Sesame Oil
  • 1 tsp Rice Wine
  • 1/4 cup Green Onions, chopped
  • 2 Tbs Cilantro, chopped
  • 4 Cheung Fun Rice Rolls
  • Oil

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Make flax egg, mix flax meal with water and place in fridge until needed
  • Mix all the ingredients: beefy grounds, broth, tamari, sesame oil, rice wine, green onions, cilantro, cornstarch and flax egg.
  • Mix well and set aside to marinate
  • Oil pan make sure you coat the entire bottom and the bottom portion of the the sides
  • Add about 1/3 cup Cheung Fun rice roll mixture (enough for a thin layer to cover the bottom of the baking dish)
  • Fill rolls with beefy mixture and roll
  • Place rolls on a plate
  • In a wok or large pan add about 2-3 cups of water and add a shallow steaming rack
  • Cover and bring to a boil
  • Add the plate to the steam rack and cover
  • Steam for about 8 mins
  • Remove plate onto a steam rack
  • Cut with scissors and pour light soy sauce over them to serve

Great flavor!

I have now used No Chix bouillon for potato and leek soup, and two pots of spicy sausage, white bean and kale (all vegan). I tend to add a little extra for a more hearty stock. The flavor is great. I love how simple and clean the ingredients are.
