Tempura Sushi Dog [Vegan/Gluten Free]

Tempura Sushi Dog [Vegan/Gluten Free]

We love making foods that are unique, delicious and surprisingly vegan! This is a fusion idea we came up with by combining a corn dog with tempura sushi. It's fasho hella phat :)

We love experimenting in the kitchen and we also love making fusion foods with some of our favorite types of food. I don't remember how I came up with it but I'm so glad I did! These are too good and feels like something you'd order at a carnival LOL.

INGREDIENTS:

Batter:

  • 1/2 cup white rice flour
  • 1/2 cup fava bean & garbanzo bean flour
  • 1 cup cold water
  • Other:
  • Nori sheets
  • 1 cup sushi rice
  • 1 1/4 cup water
  • High temperature oil for frying (we used coconut oil)
  • 6 Veggie dogs (we used Smart Dogs by Lightlife)
  • Optional: furikake & kombu seaweed for rice

Sauce:

  • Ketchup
  • Mustard
  • Sriracha

OR

  • Tamari/Soy Sauce
  • Rice Vinegar

INSTRUCTIONS:

  • Cook sushi rice according to package. Optional: add a 1" piece kombu seaweed for umami flavor
  • Whisk the flours together with the cold water until it makes a nice batter
  • Cut nori sheets in half
  • Spread sushi rice on 3/4 of the nori sheet
  • Optional: sprinkle furikake on the rice
  • Get veggie dog and roll in the rice
  • Wet the end of the nori sheet to make it stick or roll hot dog with the part without the rice first and roll to avoid using extra rice to stick
  • Coat in the tempura batter
  • Add to pan with heated high oil
  • Fry until crispy and light golden brown
  • Add stick to the bottom to eat like a corn dog

Enjoy!

Great flavor!

I have now used No Chix bouillon for potato and leek soup, and two pots of spicy sausage, white bean and kale (all vegan). I tend to add a little extra for a more hearty stock. The flavor is great. I love how simple and clean the ingredients are.
